What Makes the Inquiry Battlecruiser Different?
The Star Trek Online Inquiry Battlecruiser combines five forward weapon slots with Miracle Worker and Intelligence seating on a sturdy Tier 6 hull. That combination gives energy-weapon captains room to build around frontal firepower without giving up engineering durability. Its signature deflector console adds a forward Phaser blast, shield protection, and bonuses tied to your active Cruiser Command.
The class is recognizable from the USS Zheng He and Riker’s fleet at Coppelius in Star Trek: Picard. In STO’s timeline, its design helped establish the Avenger lineage before returning in an updated form in 2411.
Its practical appeal comes from several features working together: a 5/3 weapon layout, dual-cannon compatibility, specialist bridge officer stations, and a built-in universal console slot.

Specialist stations
| Bridge Officer Station | Rank |
|---|---|
| Engineering / Miracle Worker | Commander |
| Universal / Intelligence | Lieutenant Commander |
| Tactical | Lieutenant Commander |
| Science | Lieutenant |
| Universal | Ensign |
The Commander Engineering/Miracle Worker station and Lieutenant Commander Universal/Intelligence station give you access to both specializations through their respective seats.
Build around the forward weapon slots if you want to emphasize the ship’s frontal assault design. Keep targets inside your weapons’ firing arcs, especially when using dual cannons, and use the universal stations to accommodate the abilities your setup needs.
Innovation mechanics
The Inquiry also has the Miracle Worker Innovation mechanic. Activate three bridge officer abilities matching the colors on the Innovation display to trigger the available effect for 10 seconds. One of six possible effects is randomly selected whenever the mechanic refreshes.
Watch the display while planning your ability sequence so you can complete its color combination.
Variable Assault Deflector Array and Cruiser Commands
The included Variable Assault Deflector Array, usually shortened to V.A.D.A., fires a blast of Phaser energy from the main deflector at enemies in front of the ship. Afterward, it temporarily strengthens the forward shield facing and rapidly repairs damage to that facing.

The console also provides passive bonuses to turn rate and Phaser damage. It can be equipped on any starship in any console slot, with a limit of one equipped.
Aim the bow at your targets before activating the blast. Its forward attack and subsequent forward-shield protection both support a head-on engagement.
Your active command changes the bonus
Activating V.A.D.A. also amplifies your active Cruiser Command for you and your teammates.
| Active Cruiser Command | Additional V.A.D.A. Benefit |
|---|---|
| Weapon System Efficiency | Increased Weapons Power |
| Shield Frequency Modulation | Increased maximum shield strength and shield regeneration |
| Strategic Maneuvering | Resistance to movement-impairing effects |
Select the command that matches your immediate need before triggering the console: Weapons Power for an attack, shield bonuses for incoming pressure, or movement resistance when control effects threaten your positioning.
Avenger-family console synergy
V.A.D.A. belongs to the Deadly Maneuvers Set, alongside:
- Variable Auto-Targeting Armament from the Avenger Battlecruiser.
- Ablative Hazard Shielding from the Arbiter Battlecruiser.
Equipping additional consoles from the set unlocks passive set bonuses, including a three-piece bonus when all three are installed.
Evaluate those bonuses against the console slots they occupy before committing to the complete set. The Inquiry’s universal slot gives you another place to fit a console, but each set piece still uses space in your build.
Mastery Trait: Weapons Hot, Deflectors to Full
The Inquiry’s starship trait, Weapons Hot, Deflectors to Full, activates when you use Emergency Power to Shields. While the trait is slotted, that activation grants energy-weapon firing-cycle haste and temporary Secondary Shielding.

The haste bonus scales with Shield Power. If you plan to use this trait, include Emergency Power to Shields in your bridge officer setup and account for Shield Power when arranging your subsystem power levels.
The preceding Battlecruiser mastery tiers provide:
- Absorptive Hull Plating: +25 Physical Damage Resistance Rating and +25 Kinetic Damage Resistance Rating.
- Enhanced Weapon Banks: +15% Critical Severity.
- Enhanced Hull Plating: +25 All Energy Damage Resistance Rating and +25 Radiation Damage Resistance Rating.
- Armored Hull: +10% Hull Hitpoints.
These resistance bonuses increase Damage Resistance Rating.
How to Get the Inquiry Battlecruiser
The Inquiry launched as a promotional Tier 6 ship. Its promotional acquisition route uses the Special Requisition Choice Pack - Tier 6 Promotional Ship Choice Pack, obtainable as an ultra-rare reward from eligible Infinity Promotion R&D or Duty Officer packs.
The promotional choice box remains bound until a ship is selected. The resulting boxed Inquiry can be traded or bought and sold on the Exchange for Energy Credits.
Search the Exchange for:
Special Requisition Pack - Inquiry Battlecruiser [T6]
Compare the boxed ship’s asking price before spending on promotional packs. Buying the specific ship through the Exchange avoids relying on a random promotional reward.
Who can fly it?
Starfleet captains can use the ship, including Federation-aligned Romulan Republic and Dominion characters. Faction restrictions can be removed by having a level 65 Klingon Defense Force character or purchasing the Cross Faction Flying unlock from the Zen Store.
The ship becomes usable after completing the tutorial. Its hull, shields, equipment slots, and available bridge officer abilities scale as your character levels, so the endgame configuration is not available immediately.
Appearance Options and Cloaking Device Compatibility
The Inquiry has access to Avenger-class visual customization options. Owning the Fleet Avenger or Arbiter Battlecruiser [T6] also opens their corresponding appearance options for use on the Inquiry.
Its own appearance includes Inquiry and Inquiry Beta warp nacelle choices. Use those options alongside your unlocked Avenger-family parts to adjust the silhouette.
The ship can also equip the Console - Universal - Cloaking Device obtainable from the Galaxy Dreadnought Cruiser or Defiant Tactical Escort Retrofit. Cloaking requires that separate console; it is not a built-in Inquiry ability.
Experimental Upgrades and Sector Travel
An Experimental Ship Upgrade Token can upgrade the ship to T6-X, adding:
- One ship device slot.
- One universal console slot.
- The ability to slot an additional starship trait.
Count those additions separately from the Inquiry’s standard universal console slot when planning your equipment.
For travel between systems, the built-in Cyclical Quantum Slipstream Drive provides enhanced Sector Space travel for 90 seconds, followed by a 30-second cooldown. The Well Travelled trait does not reduce that cooldown. Use the drive for longer Sector Space trips where you can take advantage of its extended duration.
